Welcome to Lower Kaituna

The Kaituna River is located in the Bay of Plenty region of the North Island of New Zealand. It is the outflow from Lakes Rotorua and Rotoiti, and flows northwards for 45 kms, emptying into the Bay of Plenty near Maketu (the Lower Kaituna).

The warm, moist climate and fertile soils of the Lower Kaituna region make it a very favourable horticultural district, with copious production of citrus fruits such as lemons, oranges and kiwifruit, plus avocado orchards. Combined with dairy cattle, together the support of these form the backbone of the region's economy.
